Fall 2008 BECC Fellowship Applications are Available! - Download Now
Deadline - April 28, 2008
The Sierra Student Coalition (SSC), the national student chapter of the Sierra Club, is looking to support talented student organizers to implement our “Building Environmental Campus Community” (BECC) project during the upcoming Fall ‘08 semester on select campuses nationwide. BECC organizers will work with existing environmental groups, or start a new group, to conduct a hard-hitting campaign for clean energy on campus, using either the Campus Climate Challenge or the Cool Cities campaign model. As a BECC organizer, you will be required to attend an advanced grassroots organizing training this summer. The training will provide you with skills to win victories on your campus and in your community by honing your ability to plan strategic campaigns, outreach to the media, and turn out hundreds of students to campus events. (Trainings are not limited to BECC fellows. Check out the SSC's summer training programs.)
Positions are intended for students currently enrolled in college and will require a commitment of 10-15 hours per week for the duration of a semester, with the possibility of extension based on impressive performance. A limited number of $1,500 scholarships are available for exceptional applicants. Additional funds to support campus outreach and campaign events will also be available for all organizers. For the four organizers selected to receive scholarships, all travel expenses to the training will be covered. In addition, all organizers will be supported by Sierra Club and Sierra Student Coalition staff throughout the semester.
Apply today to join the Sierra Student Coalition and the Sierra Club – the largest, most effective grassroots environmental organization in the country- as a BECC Organizing Fellow. This is your chance to get trained in key organizing skills, get assistance in running and winning important strategic campaigns, and build lasting environmental community on your campus.
We are interested in candidates who meet the following criteria:
- Currently enrolled full-time in a college or university
- President or leader of your environmental group
- Demonstrated leadership and recruitment skills
- Willing and able to use the Sierra Student Coalition name for your group, or indicate affiliation with the SSC in campaign materials, media outreach, meetings, and events.
- Commitment to the BECC model of face-to-face outreach and contact to get students on campus involved in energy issues.
Thank you for your interest in the SSC's BECC Fellowship Program! Please contact sierra.student@sierraclub.org with any questions.
