About

The Montgomery County Student Environmental Activists (MCSEA) is a completely student run organization of roughly 30 students from 9 Montgomery County High Schools and Colleges. Whether it be halting highways projects, or protecting local forests, MCSEA has a rich 10 year history of making real change to protect our environment in the county and in the country.

Most Recent Campaign: GLOBAL WARMING

Global warming caused by the burning of fossil fuels threaten our safety, our prosperity, and our enviroment. Extreme weather, droughts, heat waves, and changes in climates that cause ecosystems to collapse are all possibly due to heat-trapping emissions from oil and coal in the atmosphere. Government has a responsibility to protect citizens from disasters, but on this issue our politicians have failed us - they have no action to protect Americans with solutions that can stop global warming.

This year, MCSEA made it their number one priority to get our county to take serious steps against global warming by getting 20% Clean Energy for Montgomery County. Over the past year we have:
• Gathered over 3,000 petition signatures from 9 different county schools, and downtown Takoma Park, Silver Spring, and Bethesda
• Presented about global warming and clean energy at 7 campus environmental groups
• Spoke to 22 county high school classes about the serious effects of global warming to our generation
• Organized the April 29th Clean Energy Rally

Past Victories

• Leading local efforts to protect the Beltwood and Chapman forests
• Petitioning to create the mandate inspections for all vehicles in Maryland
• Working on the national campaign to change Staples Office Supplies' foresting practices
• Joining the successful effort to halt drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge
