Dismantling Racism

Although the SSC is distinctly an environmental organization, we recognize that understanding and considering race and diversity are essential to tackling a shocking number of today's environmental issues

Therefore, on February 17, 18, and 19th, 2006 we will assemble a diverse group of students and hold a Dismantling Racism training in Washington, DC. Click here to learn more .

News

The Connecticut SSC is currently preparing a campaign to get the Connecticut State University System to commit to a comprehensive Clean Energy and Green Building Policy. We are still very much in the beginning stages of this campaign so if you would like to get involved please contact us. You do not have to go one of schools in the Connecticut University System to particiapte. In fact, it would be ideal to have students from many different schools, both high school and college, working on similar campaigns; we need all the help we can get. There is a lot of energy in Connecticut connected to this issue right now so it is definitely the time to get the ball rolling.

Are you part of an environmental club at your school? If so, you should become an SSC group! Why, you ask. Well, as an SSC group you will be conected to a vast network of student activists from across the country and right here in Connecticut. We offer many resources including national campaigns that you can plug into as well as totally awesome trainings on myriad subjects that will help you become amazing activists. Why wait? Contact us as soon as possible.

The First Connecticut SSC Student Activist Training a Success!

On April 2nd and 3rd, 2005 the Connecticut SSC hosted a Clean Energy Conference and Student Activist Training at Wesleyan University. With almost 30 people in attendance and over a dozen environmental organizations participating, the conference made the important first step in creating a viable network of student activists in Connecticut. Yeah Connecticut!

There are many excellent environmental initiatives afoot in the state. If you or your group would like to be part of the Connecticut network please contact us right away. Together we can make Connecticut a leader in environmental activism.

The Connecticut SSC is seeking new leadership.

If you are interested in becoming a leader in the environmental movement now is the time. Contact us to find out how. No experience necessary, just a willingness to learn, we will provide all the training you need. Don't delay, apply today.

Are you angry and upset about something? Feel like voicing your opinions about the state of the environment? Especially if you have a particular issue in mind, feel free to contact your US Senators. They're in office, after all, to represent YOU! Let them know what you care about!

Issues

Cleaner Cars, Cleaner Air

On February 15, 2005, the Governor's Steering Committee on Climate Change submitted the Connecticut Climate Change Action Plan 2005 to the General Assembly, fulfilling the requirements of PA 04-252. The goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels by the year 2010 and an additional 10% below that by the year 2020.
