  • The Texas-Size Environmental Roadshow- A Texas-Size Success This past semester, the SSC toured the Lone Star State with a "Texas Size  Environmental Roadshow" organized by two Dallas-based activists.

Riding on a bio-diesel powered school bus, SSC activists Christina Billingsley and Anna Pierce launched the first-ever SSC training roadshow to hit the state.

They stopped through Rice University in Houston, Pascal High School in Ft. Worth, TAG Magnet School in Dallas, and also a mixed college-high school group in Dallas providing SSC grassroots organizing workshops to student environmental groups. "We focused our trainings on clean energy issues at each school. In Ft. Worth and Houston, they're working to bring bio-diesel to all campus vehicles, in Corpus Christi a group wants to bring 20% clean energy to campus, so we're trying to work with each local group and adjust each training to fit their needs." said Christina Billingsley. The Roadshow will continue and has plans to visit schools in Corpus Christi, Nacogdoches, and Austin by the end of the school year.

If you want to be a stop on the "Texas Size Environmental Roadshow" and receive genuine 100% authentic SSC organizing training, email Anna at anna.pierce@ssc.org.

Photos of the Roadshow will be on the website soon. Special thanks to the Lone Star Chapter, Dallas Group, and Houston Group Sierra Clubs!

Dallas SSC Bhopal Campaign!
On December 3rd 1984, over 40 tons of highly poisonous gas leaked out of the pesticide factory of Union Carbide in Bhopal,India. An estimated half-million people were poisoned, and the health impacts continue to this day. The death toll is more than 20,000. It is estimated that 10-15 are dying every month. Union Carbide fled India, leaving behind huge rusting vats of toxic waste, which are leaking into the ground water today. Dow Chemical has since purchased 100% of Union Carbide, and the survivors of Bhopal are joined by an international network of environmental, labor, and human rights groups in demanding that Dow clean up the mess and provide medical care for those injured by Union Carbide's negligence.December 3, 2004 is the 20th anniversary of the worst industrial disaster in history.
